Development
Install dependencies:
npm install
Build the server:
npm run build

Debugging
Since MCP servers communicate over stdio, debugging can be challenging. We recommend using the MCP Inspector, which is available as a package script:
npm run inspector
The Inspector will provide a URL to access debugging tools in your browser.
Installation
Installing via Smithery
To install NYTimes Article Search for Claude Desktop automatically via Smithery:

Manual Installation
To use with Claude Desktop, add the server config:

Environment Variables
Create a .env
file in the root of your project and add your New York Times API key:
NYTIMES_API_KEY=your_api_key_here
Running the Server
After building the project, you can run the server with:
node build/index.js
The server will start and listen for MCP requests over stdio.
